We got tired of reading gadget "reviews" that were clearly written by someone who never plugged the thing in. Most tech sites are built for people who already know what a GPIO pin is. We wanted something different — a site written for students and beginners who are trying to figure out which laptop, camera, Arduino kit or drone actually makes sense for what they're building, without needing a computer science degree to understand the review.
RecordNests is a small, independent site. We're not a big publisher with a testing lab — we're closer to the audience we write for: people who learn by building things, breaking things, and occasionally frying a breadboard at 1am. What we do have is time to actually research specs, compare real prices across the UK and US, and read through the manuals so you don't have to.
Who this site is for
If you're a student picking your first laptop for a coding bootcamp, a hobbyist trying to decide between an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi for your next project, or someone prepping gear for a robotics club or a university competition — this is the site we wish existed when we were figuring that stuff out ourselves.
How we pick what to review
We prioritise gadgets that are genuinely useful for learning and building — not just whatever has the biggest marketing budget. Where we can, we compare real specs and real prices instead of copying manufacturer press releases. We're upfront when something is a solid budget pick versus when it's genuinely the best in its category.
How the site makes money
This site runs on two things: display advertising (Google AdSense) and affiliate links (mainly Amazon UK and US, plus a few specialist retailers like B&H Photo). If you click through to buy something we've linked, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't change what we recommend — see our Affiliate Disclosure page for the full picture.
