If to you are a computer science or engineering student and you searching for a best and trending project idea for your final year project, then ESP32-Based smart Home automation system is the best option. In todays modern homes IOT (internet of things) and wireless control have become quite popular. In this article we will talk about how you can easily understand and make your smart home in your home without complex wiring or difficult diagrams,
1. What Is Smart Home Automation And Why Is It Necessary?
If seen then in the world of Internet of Things (IOT) every device has its own unique ip address through which they communicate with each other over the internet. Smart home automation means controlling home appliances (such as lights, fans, and security doors) from a remote location or via your smartphone. By this not only energy is saved but home security also becomes strong.
2. Required Components (Materials Required)
To build this project you will need some basic electronic components which you will easily get from the market:
-
ESP32 Development Board: This is the brain of this project in which you get built-in wifi and bluetooth.
-
DHT11 Sensor: It checks room temperature and humidity.
-
Relay Module (5v): Used for safely switching on/off AC/DC appliances.
-
MQ3 Gas Ya Smoke Sensor: If there is any smoke or gas leak in the house then it will immediately detect it.
-
PIR Motion Sensor: Used to catch any stranger's movement (intrusion) inside or outside your house.
-
LDR (Light Dependent Resistor): As it starts getting dark in the room it automatically turns on lights.
-
Connecting wires and power supply (DC Battery/Adapter)
3. Step-by-Step System Design And Working
A. Power Supply Unit
If we see then for any IOT project a stable power supply source is very much necessary. You can use 5V or 240V AC to DC to power your system so that the microcontroller and sensors keep getting proper voltage.
B. Temperature & Fan Control System
Having an automatic cooling system when heat increases inside the house is very important. DHT11 sensor takes room temperature reading and checks. If the temperature goes above a fixed limit (like for example 30 degree c) then the ESP32 microcontroller automatically turns on the DC fan through relay.
C. Smart Lighting And LDR Integration
To automate lighting inside and outside the house using an LDR sensor will be best. When it gets dark outside at night time, then LDR automatically turns on porch light and in the morning lights automatically turn off.
D. Security and Motion Detection (PIR Sensor)
If you want that house safety is better then using this sensor will be best. If at night time any stranger comes near the house or movement is detected then ESP32 becomes active and sends alert or message to the user.
4. How To Program ESP32?
If seen then coding ESP32 is very easy because in it you get Arduino IDE support.
-
First of all install Arduino IDE in your computer.
-
Add ESP32 Board library in this.
-
Define Wifi Credentials (SSID and password) inside the code so that your microcontroller can connect to your house internet router.
-
Download corresponding libraries for sensors like DHT11 and relays and compile and upload.
Conclusion:
Making an ESP32-based smart home automatic system can be the best project for final year students. This is not only low budget and gets made easily, but you also get best knowledge and experience of practical IoT, embedded systems and hardware software integration. And you can add more new sensors according to your choice in this project and can make it more advance.
